Iran has sent five planes of food to Qatar: airline

Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al Khaled Al Sabah said in a statement carried by the state-run KUNA news agency Sunday that unity among Gulf Arab countries "was paramount to the people of the region".

Qatar says it is open to talks on ending the dispute, which saw three Gulf states order all Qatari citizens out within 14 days.

Gas has helped transform the tiny emirate into one of the richest countries in the world, fuelling its rise into a major regional player and helping fund huge infrastructure projects such as the 2022 football World Cup, which will be hosted by Qatar.

Each of these planes carries around 90 tons of cargo, the Iranian official noted, adding that another plane will also be sent today.

"Following the sanctions. on Qatar, IranAir has so far transported food and vegetables to this country by four flights", Shahrokh Noushabadi, head of public relations at Iran's national airline, was quoted as saying by Fars news agency. Doha is a major global travel hub, but flagship carrier Qatar Airways now flies increasingly over Iran and Turkey after being blocked elsewhere in the Middle East.

Early Sunday, the three countries all issued statements urging mixed nationality families to call their respective interior ministries, which would take into consideration the "humanitarian circumstances" of their situation.

Saudi Arabia has sealed Qatar's only land border, through which it had imported most of its food. In recent days, Turkey has stepped in to supply supermarkets there with eggs and milk after anxious residents cleaned out shelves in the early days of the crisis.

Arab nations have tried to isolate Qatar over its alleged support of militant groups and ties to Iran.
