Tampa's up-and-coming restaurant scene has earned the attention of Travel + Leisure, which recently published an article headlined "Tampa, Florida, May Have One of the Country's Most Creative Food Scenes."
The Time Inc. publication, which says it has close to 3 million monthly readers online and just under a million circulation for its monthly print magazine, praised the city's "unique culinary culture, poised between the food of Florida's past and the future of cutting-edge cuisine."
Among the restaurants singled out were Seminole Heights spots The Refinery with its farm-to-table cuisine and Fodder and Shine with its early 1900s cracker cuisine dishes such as frog legs and rabbit.
Other foods highlighted were the native chili made with alligator and wild boar from Ulele in Tampa Heights and fresh, wall-grown salads from Elevage on South Howard Avenue.
In May, the magazine named Tampa No. 20 on the list of the top cities for barbecue in the U.S., with nods to Big John's Alabama BBQ, Holy Hog and Kojak's.
Earlier this summer they ranked Tampa in the top 10 places for a "staycation," Orlando topped that list.
